Ready for the outback? The Nevada 50 ride starts and ends in busy cities but we’ll spend the week exploring Nevada on America’s Loneliest Road. The week includes a series of rides that you won’t forget any time soon. It’s jam-packed with fascinating trailside history and geology. The rides offer challenging terrain, unique shuttles, long runs of off-the-beaten track singletrack and incredible desert sunsets.
Fly into Las Vegas and enjoy the flexibility and travel light, because we’ll have a high-end full suspension mountain bike ready for you and bike mechanic at your service. We’ll set the tone for the week with a shuttle to our first ride in the small town of Caliente — dry, open space and amazing riding!
We have searched the state for the best oases for our evenings and have a few surprises in store. As we cross the state of Nevada, we will learn the story of the ancient ocean of Nevada’s distant past, find petroglyphs and fossils, trace the Pony Express and make our way to the stunning Sierra Nevadas where we will spend a couple of days riding classic mountain bike routes on the banks of Lake Tahoe.
When the ride is over we will drop you off in Carson City or Reno for easy flights home. Or, plan an extra adventure around Tahoe or Yosemite National Park.
Is This Ride For You?
If you want to experience a place that will feel a million miles from home, yet close enough for a quick flight if you crave open space and the subtle beauties found in stunning desert landscapes, and if you’re excited to finish each night with gritty and local culture after ripping amazing mountain bike trails — then the Nevada 50 ride is perfect for you.
Day 1. Welcome Las Vegas!
Our guides will pick you up in Las Vegas, Nevada — either at your hotel or the airport terminal. Then, we’ll head to the Giant shop to build bikes, make sure your bikes are fitting properly and fill our packs with supplies for the week ahead.
We’ll enjoy a 2‑hour shuttle to the small town of Caliente. Our first ride will focus on the Barnes Canyon System where we’ll earn our turns riding loose and rocky terrain as we climb through the canyon to a high point. At the top, enjoy beautiful views into Utah. We will have the sweet smell of sage to accompany our ride.
After our final descent to the valley floor, you can choose a chill pedal into town or hop in the van if your legs are tired. Our host lodge for the night is the Calientes Hot Springs Motel.
Unpack, clean up and we’ll enjoy dinner at the Side Track.
Day 2. Cave Lake State Park
Rise and shine!
Up early and we’ll hit the road. After a 2‑hour shuttle we’ll arrive at Cave Lake State Park to ride through a stunning juniper and sage forest with a loop around a high point that will offer beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and Cave Lake itself.
The singletrack trails offer a rollercoaster of ups and downs and the grades allow for fast flow. Our loop will finish at the lake which will double as our lunch spot while guides pack up bikes.
After our ride, we’ll head into Ely, our town for the next two nights. You can either kick back in the Prospector Hotel & Gambling Hall (it is Nevada after all) or hop back on your bikes for an afternoon burner on a downhill track. We will climb 1500 feet on double track before ripping down a ridge run right back to town.
Day 3. Ward Mountain
Sleep in and eat a big breakfast! We are riding Ward Mountain today.
This trail network is something the locals are proud of — berms, flow, drops, it has everything. The views don’t disappoint either. The morning ride will be a solid loop, but if you are wanting to get out after lunch more, we have a second lap on Ward Mountain ready to go — it’s up to you!
Tonight, we’ll head back to Ely and enjoy dinner together.
Day 4. Toiyabe Mountain
If you think Nevada is feeling remote, “hold my beer”! Today starts with a transfer to Kingston for a special adventure.
We will meet up with our 4x4 crew who will shuttle us way up into the Toiyabe Mountains for an epic day of riding. The mountains are rugged, and the descent is astounding.
We will peak around 10,000 feet and ride down to the valley floor to enjoy the local fare to our very comfortable hotel at Miles End B&B.
Day 5. Time for Lake Tahoe!
We’ll rise and shine early this morning, as we have the longest shuttle of the week. It’s time for Tahoe!
We will make our way west to the breathtaking mountain biker’s paradise of Lake Tahoe. Today’s ride will focus on the Ash Canyon area with a big 23-mile route — high on the rim all the way into Carson City. You will earn some of your elevation, but gravity is going to do the heavy lifting today. The granite terrain and dry climate will offer yet another world-class ride.
Our host for the night will be the most modern of the week to reward the trek across one of the loneliest frontiers of Nevada. We’ll enjoy a delicious dinner to celebrate the week, and we still have the crown jewel ride tomorrow!
Day 6. Rose Mountain
For our last ride of the week, we are going big. We’ll start with a shuttle up Rose Mountain and ride an epic combo of trails including the Tahoe Rim Trail, the infamous Flume Trail and make our way to Spooner Lake for lunch. We are not done yet!
After lunch, we still have another climb followed by a wicked descent back into Carson City. While you are kicking back at the beer cooler, your guides will be packing your bikes; it’s time for drop-offs.
This action-packed week will leave you with a new appreciation for Nevada, new friends, a ton of photos to share back home and sore legs. Here’s to a wonderful adventure!
