Why do we require an application?

Our application process is in response to two of the most common questions our Riders have prior to booking a trip with us:

1) Am I skilled/fit enough to participate in this Ride?
2) Will the other people on my Ride be skilled/fit enough?

Ensuring that you - and the other Riders on your Ride - are a good fit for the Ride selected is of paramount importance to us. We want to help you pick the Ride that's perfect for you, and ensure that everyone booked on a Ride is on the right Ride for them. That's why we want to know a bit more about you - your mountain biking history, where you ride, how often, etc... - before we take your money.

We review every application and if, based on your responses, we think you're a good fit, we'll approve your application and you'll receive a link to place a deposit. If we think you might not be a good fit (either too skilled or not skilled enough for the Ride you chose), then we'll give you a call to discuss your preferences in greater detail.

Please note: our application process isn't about excluding anyone, or making anyone feel like they're not 'good enough' to participate in one of our Rides. It's about ensuring that you end up on the right Ride for you, with people of similar skill, fitness and riding preferences. In the end this ends up being a much better experience for everyone.

Thousands of years ago, the glaciers retreated and European inhabitants moved north in search of new land, opportunities, and resources. What they found was spectacular mountains, deep fjords, waterfalls, and rivers - Velkommen til Norge! (welcome to norway!)

With fish to catch and reindeer to hunt, the seafaring Viking age was born. With their courageousness, resiliency and often risk-taking spirit, combined with the stunning geography, there's no doubt the Vikings would have been excellent mountain bikers. The natural beauty and technical trails will have you wiping the drool off your face and smiling from ear-to-ear. You'll traverse mountains, explore alpine trails and break a good sweat for the ultimate reward --- getting off the beaten path. From the mountaintops, oceans, and rivers in between, you'll want to pack your sense of adventure, along with grippy tires and a good pair of sunglasses for those endless northern summer nights. To up the ante even more, you'll sea kayak in beautiful Sognefjord, enjoy a traditional (and delicious) Norwegian dinner and breathe in the fresh coastal air with a ferry ride through inlets and fjords.

IS THIS RIDE FOR YOU?

You are a confident and technically strong mountain biker with excellent bike handling skills. You don't mind hike-a-bike sections, long climbs if it means technical descents that will have you smiling from ear-to-ear. You're comfortable choosing your own line on rocky, rooty and slippery trails. You don't mind breaking a good sweat if it means epic views and heart-pumping descents. You can ride for up to 5 hours a day, and have an adventurous spirit that often finds you paddling rivers and exploring remote trails. You have a somewhat adventurous appetite and don't mind trying new things (not to worry though, we can still accommodate dietary restrictions)!

DAY 1: VelkoMMen til norge!

Welcome to Norway!

When you arrive our guides will provide an airport pick-up at one of our designated pick-ups times (10:30 am, 1:30 pm or 5:00 pm) from the Bergen Flesland International Airport.

Depending on when you arrive, you'll have the opportunity to explore charming downtown Bergen. Venture down to the harbour, enjoy a bite to eat at the local fish market or browse through the wharf and buildings of Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the main harbour, train station, and fish market.

At 6:30 pm, meet your guides and other Riders in the hotel lobby for a meet and greet and group dinner. You'll build your bikes or get your rental bike fitted so you're ready for the week of adventure that lies ahead!

day 2: Views of arnafjord & Samnangerfjord

We'll enjoy a delicious early morning breakfast at the hotel and then venture out for our first ride together on the outskirts of Bergen.

We'll warm up our legs and get our heart's pumping with a short doubletrack climb through beautiful forests. Eventually, the trees will start to disappear, the trail will narrow and you'll get the first taste of Norwegian singletrack.

The ride weaves up and over rocky terrain with spectacular views of Arnafjord below.

We'll stop at the summit to snap photos and have a snack before enjoying the descent back to town. At the end of the ride, we'll enjoy lunch before our afternoon ride.

Our afternoon ride is an out-and-back trail. The trail includes a 90-minute hike-a-bike that leads to technical forested singletrack and opens up with views of beautiful Samnangerfjorden below. Hold onto your hats (or helmets?!)!

In the evening, we'll head to Voss - the adventure capital of Norway!

We'll check into our historic hotel, which has been run by the same family for five generations. Get freshened up, go for a swim in the lake and then we'll head out for a group dinner.

Cheers to an awesome first day of riding!

day 3: OPPHIEM via liaset traverse

Rise and shine! After a  buffet breakfast at our hotel, we'll have a short drive to the trailhead and start our first mountain traverse.

This ride starts with a  hike-a-bike section and steep climb until we get out of the forest and on top of the mountain. Don't be afraid to push yourself today, as you'll be rewarded with a fresh pint at the local brewery at the end of the ride. We'll stop for a trailside lunch and take in the view before descending singletrack with epic views and weaving through pine forests. We'll enjoy a few man-made features near the end of the trail, along with a brewery tour and a cold pint of Norway's finest local brew!

After a long day on the trails, you may like to enjoy the hotel sauna, jacuzzi or decide to jump in the lake.

day 4: THe HJORT TRAVErse  & Whitewater canoeing

After a delicious breakfast buffet, we'll shuttle 3/4 of the way up Lønahorgi Mountain and start our climb up to the summit. There are hike-a-bike (and carry bike) sections to reach the summit. This will be another full day adventure with spectacular views. This ride requires technical skills and a choose your own adventure attitude as you navigate the best line amongst rock slabs, snow patches, and technical descents - the true spirit of freeride. We'll stop close to the summit for a trailside lunch.

The ride will end across from the river,  where you'll have the opportunity for a refreshing swim and/or to test your whitewater paddling skills (with the help of highly trained guides). We'll paddle down the river to a local family-run farm. They'll have Smalahove ready and waiting, a traditional Norwegian dinner consisting of sheep's head, potatoes and a shot of Akevitt (a local spirit) to cheers to another great day! Smalahove  is considered a delicacy in Norway, and  Voss is one of the only places you can try this traditional dinner.

Tonight, we're staying at a 10th generation, family-run farm in the countryside.

Note: Dinner options will be available for Rider's with dietary restrictions, please let us know of any dietary restrictions on your Rider Dashboard.

day 5: voss shuttle day

After breakfast, we'll have a more 'relaxed' riding day with a little more shuttling. We'll use the van for a few runs and then head to the new gondola in town to ride a couple trails on the mountain behind town.

At the end of the day, we'll enjoy a group dinner at the top of the mountain.

day 6: pedal and paddle Sognefjord

After breakfast at the hotel, we'll pack up our suitcases and hit the road for a 40-minute scenic drive to the trailhead.

We'll drive up into the mountains where the cool mountain air will energize us for a beautiful descent down to Sognefjord below.

After a beautiful mountain descent and short pedal through the Norwegian countryside, after lunch, it's time to switch our bikes for sea kayaks!

We'll paddle across the inlet to a small village.  You may choose to enjoy a fjord swim before we catch the ferry boat back to Bergen.

The ferry will take as in and around beautiful islands and inlets, sit back, relax and revel in the coastal beauty. The ferry will drop us at the Bergen harbour at 8:45 pm, where we'll enjoy a final group dinner.

Skål to an amazing week!

DAY 7:  'HA DET BRA' (GOODBYE) TO  NORWAY

On our final morning together, the guides will be available from 7:30 am to 9:30 am to help pack your bikes. We strongly recommend booking a departure flight for after 12:00 pm so you have time to pack your bike and enjoy breakfast.

We will provide an airport shuttle departing the hotel at  10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. It is a 30-minute drive to the airport.

Cheers  to an amazing week in Norway and your new mountain biking friends!
