Why do we require an application?

Our application process is in response to two of the most common questions our Riders have prior to booking a trip with us:

1) Am I skilled/fit enough to participate in this Ride?
2) Will the other people on my Ride be skilled/fit enough?

Ensuring that you - and the other Riders on your Ride - are a good fit for the Ride selected is of paramount importance to us. We want to help you pick the Ride that's perfect for you, and ensure that everyone booked on a Ride is on the right Ride for them. That's why we want to know a bit more about you - your mountain biking history, where you ride, how often, etc... - before we take your money.

We review every application and if, based on your responses, we think you're a good fit, we'll approve your application and you'll receive a link to place a deposit. If we think you might not be a good fit (either too skilled or not skilled enough for the Ride you chose), then we'll give you a call to discuss your preferences in greater detail.

Please note: our application process isn't about excluding anyone, or making anyone feel like they're not 'good enough' to participate in one of our Rides. It's about ensuring that you end up on the right Ride for you, with people of similar skill, fitness and riding preferences. In the end this ends up being a much better experience for everyone.

Welcome to paradise, eh! The Canadian Rockies are one of the most iconic and revered mountain ranges in the world, its jagged, snowy peaks providing postcard-perfect photos at every turn!

It's not surprising that British Columbia has become a mecca for all outdoor enthusiasts, with miles and miles of perfectly groomed, scenic bike paths and hiking trails.

Experience the breadth and beauty of Canada like you never have before on this remarkable 8-day luxury multisport adventure. Our journey begins in the small mountain town of Fernie, and continues to remote and spectacular Nipika Mountain Resort, on the edge of Kootenay and Banff National Parks, before ending in Banff National Park and the nearby town of Canmore.

Also included are rejuvenating yoga classes with our certified instructor, and a splendid afternoon paddle down the Kootenay River by canoe. Adventure doesn't get any better than this, eh!

IS THIS RIDE FOR YOU?

This adventure is suitable for fit beginner to intermediate mountain bikers. Some basic experience with mountain biking is required: familiarity with proper shifting, basic mountain biking techniques, and climbing and descending on dirt roads.

Itinerary Disclaimer: While it is our intention to adhere to the itinerary described below, adventure travel can be unpredictable and may result in necessary or desirable alterations to the trails we ride, accommodation we stay in and destinations we visit.

Day 1 (Friday): Welcome to the Rockies!

Welcome to the Rockies!  Our air-conditioned shuttle departs Calgary Airport at 4:00 p.m. taking you through the front ranges of the Rockies to Island Lake Lodge, at the base of the awe-inspiring Lizard Range. Tucked into the remote Cedar Valley, the lodge is surrounded by classic Rocky Mountain scenery and myriad outdoor adventure opportunities.  Enjoy a delicious dinner and hot-tub under the stars to celebrate your arrival!

Day 2 (Saturday): Elk Valley Adventure

After a gourmet breakfast at Island Lake Lodge, we’ll explore the Elk Valley by bike and foot.  We'll start out with a ride and short hike to beautiful Fairy Creek Falls, followed by a picnic by the water.  After lunch, we’ll bike up to the top of Hartley Pass, enjoying a thrilling ride down.  Tonight we will be treated to a well-earned, locally sourced, organic four-course dinner at the Lodge!

Day 3 (Sunday): Whitewater Fun

Whitewater day!  After a delicious breakfast, we'll meet our whitewater guides and transfer to the put-in on the Bull River (spring trips) or Elk River (summer trips). Both of these rivers offer thrilling rafting with spectacular canyon scenery - no prior experience is required. You'll have a delicious picnic lunch on the river and then more whitewater fun in the afternoon.   Tonight we will dine in the Lodge's rustically-elegant Ancient Timbers Dining Room for a feast of true Canadian mountain cuisine.

Day 4 (Monday): Lizard Range Bike & Hike

We’ll wake up to an early morning yoga practice, overlooking stunning mountain vistas.  After a gourmet breakfast at the lodge, we'll lace up our hiking shoes for a beautiful hike on the Spineback Trail, directly above the Lodge. This trail takes us right into the alpine, where we’ll enjoy sublime views of Island Lake, the town of Fernie, and the Elk Valley.  After a relaxing lunch on the lodge deck, we’ll strap on our helmets and get on our bikes for a leisurely cruise down Cedar Valley road, through old-growth forest with cedars up to 800 years old!

Day 5 (Tuesday): Nipika Mountain Resort

After our final breakfast at Island Lake Lodge, we’ll get in the van and head up the Rocky Mountain Trench to beautiful Nipika Mountain Resort, an eco-resort and wilderness haven tucked into the Rockies on the edge of Kootenay National Park.  After lunch, we’ll explore the beautiful Cross River Canyon and Kootenay River Valley by bike, enjoying a soak in the hot tub before dinner and campfire under the stars.

Day 6 (Wednesday): Bike, Hike and Paddle

We’ll enjoy our stay at this remote playground in style with a fun mountain bike ride in the beautiful wilderness surrounding the lodge (an area where motorized vehicles are not allowed), followed by a short hike to a beautiful viewpoint.  After lunch at the lodge, we’ll cap off a great day with a sublime paddle down the Kootenay River by canoe. Tonight we’ll enjoy a gourmet BBQ dinner and another campfire under the mountain skies.

Day 7 (Thursday): Banff National Park

Today we head to spectacular Banff National Park, the crown jewel of Canada's National Park system. Postcard-perfect Rocky Mountain peaks dot the horizon in every direction, while spectacular blue lakes provide yet more reasons for your jaw to drop. We'll stop in the town of Banff for a snack and a stroll down the iconic main street before heading up to Tunnel Mountain for an incredible hike above town. After our hike, we'll enjoy a fun ride from Banff to the town of Canmore where we'll enjoy our last dinner together on one of Canmore's many excellent patios.

Day 8 (Friday): Return to Calgary

After breakfast in Canmore, we’ll hop on the bikes for a beautiful backcountry ride to the trailhead of a spectacular hike above the town of Canmore.
