Why do we require an application?

Our application process is in response to two of the most common questions our Riders have prior to booking a trip with us:

1) Am I skilled/fit enough to participate in this Ride?
2) Will the other people on my Ride be skilled/fit enough?

Ensuring that you - and the other Riders on your Ride - are a good fit for the Ride selected is of paramount importance to us. We want to help you pick the Ride that's perfect for you, and ensure that everyone booked on a Ride is on the right Ride for them. That's why we want to know a bit more about you - your mountain biking history, where you ride, how often, etc... - before we take your money.

We review every application and if, based on your responses, we think you're a good fit, we'll approve your application and you'll receive a link to place a deposit. If we think you might not be a good fit (either too skilled or not skilled enough for the Ride you chose), then we'll give you a call to discuss your preferences in greater detail.

Please note: our application process isn't about excluding anyone, or making anyone feel like they're not 'good enough' to participate in one of our Rides. It's about ensuring that you end up on the right Ride for you, with people of similar skill, fitness and riding preferences. In the end this ends up being a much better experience for everyone.

Need a weekend away to recharge, refocus and reinvigorate? Well, we happen to have just what the doctor prescribed.

The combination of hiking and biking in lush, old growth forest, staying at a rustic B&B and the exquisite Island Lake Lodge (ranked as one of National Geographic's Best Places To Stay several years in a row) will have you washing all your cares and worries out the window. Finish off with whitewater rafting on the Bull or Elk Rivers and you've pretty much got the best weekend ever!

Island Lake is a beautiful backcountry resort nestled in the southern portion of the Kootenay Range in Cedar Valley and perched above a picturesque private mountain lake. It's the ideal setting for the perfect weekend getaway, with expert instructions from our friendly, local guides, delicious breakfast and lunches, ice-cold microbrews, morning yoga and evening hot-tub soaks!

It's time to get out, explore and get pampered.

Day 1 (Friday): Welcome to the Rockies!

Welcome to the Rockies!  Our air-conditioned shuttle departs Calgary Airport at 4:00 p.m. taking you through the front ranges of the Rockies to our B&B style lodge, at the base of the awe-inspiring Lizard Range. Tucked into the remote Cedar Valley, the B&B is surrounded by classic Rocky Mountain scenery and myriad outdoor adventure opportunities.  Enjoy a hot-tub under the stars to celebrate your arrival!  Tonight we'll grab a quick bite to eat upon arrival into Fernie around 8:30 p.m. at one of the local favourites, Bridgeside Bistro.

Day 2 (Saturday): Elk Valley Adventure

After a gourmet breakfast at the B&B, we’ll explore the Elk Valley by bike and foot.  We'll start out with a ride and short hike to beautiful Fairy Creek Falls, followed by a picnic by the water.  After lunch, we’ll bike up to the top of Hartley Pass, enjoying a thrilling ride down.  Tonight we will be treated to a well earned, locally sourced, organic three course dinner at the B&B!

Day 3 (Sunday): Whitewater Fun

Whitewater day!  After a delicious breakfast, we'll meet our whitewater guides and transfer to the put-in on the Bull River (spring trips) or Elk River (summer trips). Both of these rivers offer thrilling rafting with spectacular canyon scenery - no prior experience is required. You'll have a delicious picnic lunch on the river and then more whitewater fun in the afternoon.   This afternoon, we'll check in to the world-reknowned, backcountry Island Lake Lodge.  Tonight we will dine in the lodges rustically-elegant Ancient Timbers Dining Room for a feast of true Canadian mountain cuisine.

Day 4 (Monday): Lizard Range Bike & Hike and goodbyes to the Rockies!

We’ll wake up to an early morning yoga practice, overlooking stunning mountain vistas.  After a gourmet breakfast at the lodge, we'll lace up our hiking shoes for a beautiful hike on the Spineback Trail, directly above the lodge. This trail takes us right into the alpine, where we’ll enjoy sublime views of Island Lake, the town of Fernie, and the Elk Valley.  After a relaxing lunch on the lodge deck, we’ll strap on our helmets and get on our bikes for a leisurely cruise down Cedar Valley road, through old-growth forest with cedars up to 800 years old!  We'll return to Calgary by 9:00 p.m., where you can choose to stay the night or hop on a late-night flight home.
