How to get people to see and rank your video
There are a few easy sharing options built into the contest that you should use, as well as some other tips we suggest for getting more people to view (and rate) your video. You will need a minimum of 20 rankings in order to move on to the judging round. This is a lot of votes, but is easily attained with a little bit of work on your part:
Once you have joined and uploaded your profile, you will go to 'My Videos' to upload your video. After you've added information about your video, use the 'e-mail friends about your new media' field by clicking on the 'Import Friends' link. This will allow you to e-mail your friends and invite them to view and rank your video.
Tell them:
- Go to http://www.sacredrides.com/ilovemountainbiking
- Find my video and click on it
- Mouse over the video and bring up the rating bars
- Click on the rating bars (this will bring up the player page for this video)
- Click on the rating stars
- This will bring up the login page, so you will need to register and create an account to vote.
- After you’ve registered, vote on my video!
Facebook + MySpace
After you have uploaded your video, you can click on 'my videos' in the menu tab in your members page. This will take you to your video. At the bottom ride of the video player, there is a button labeled 'share'. Click on this button - it will bring up a window with some code (more on that below), and Facebook and MySpace buttons.
Facebook: click on the Facebook button. This will bring up a separate window. If you're not logged in, you'll have to log in to Facebook first. After you've logged in, this will open up the Share/Post to Profile window. This will go out to all of your Facebook friends, so write them an invitation to view and rank your video. be specific and tell them why it's so important for them to view and rank your video (you do want to go to Peru, don't you?) The link to your video will automatically be posted. Other ideas include posting a link to your video in your status bar, creating a Facebook group and inviting your friends to the group (e.g. send _____ to Peru), and creating a Facebook 'event' with a link to your video.
MySpace: Fairly self-explanatory: add a title (e.g. 'Help me win a free mountain bike trip to Peru!) and description to your link (remember to ask people to view and vote on your video and why you want them to do this). Enter your e-mail and MySpace password and the rest will happen fairly easily.
Embedding on your own site
If you have your own website (such as a blog or community site), you can create a widget to post there. After clicking on the share button, click the 'Copy to Clipboard' button, and then embed this code on your site in the most appropriate place.
Go to your video's page. In the URL/web address field in your browser, copy the URL of the video (the http://....... stuff) . You'll want to shorten this to make room for other text in your Tweet, so if you're not using a Twitter app like TweetDeck, then go to http://is.gd to shorten your URL first. After you get the new shortened URL, copy it and paste it in your twitter field and add whatever text you want to add (e.g. 'Please vote for my video and send me to Peru!)
